Having fun again: Activity # 1...

...Ballroom dancing!

Since returning from London, we have been having fun learning how to ballroom dance! After watching 'Take the lead' with Antonio Banderas and watching 'Dancing with the stars' on TV (yes, we do watch that sometimes! :-)), we thought it would be fun to try it out. Surprisingly, we found online a ballroom dance studio only 10 minutes from our house and decided to check it out. After meeting our lovely teacher Alex (who is about our age and originally from Columbia) we ended up signing up for an introductory package that entitles us to take group and private classes as well as participate in the "practice party sessions" on Wednesday nights (where they dim the lights and let you dance for an hour to all different kinds of music!).

Right now we are taking an "Intro to Ballroom" class on Tuesday nights, alternating having a private class every other week with Alex, and going to the practice party sessions on Wednesday nights. Last night we learned a few more steps to the samba (which is actually very different from the samba we dance in Brazil) and the hustle (we had never heard about it before but I think it's what Stephen and my mother like to dance - at least it looks like it :-)). In the last 3 weeks we have already learned so much and know the basic steps (and some more fun moves too) to the: tango, waltz, fox-trot, cha-cha, mambo/salsa, swing, the rumba, samba and hustle! Our favorite so far is the tango and the cha-cha!

Last week at the party practice session we were able to at least dance to the different songs they played and we had fun! It was actually interesting because I was much more embarrassed than Jonny about dancing and kept giggling while he led me down the dance floor! :-) After an hour we were exhausted because it still takes a lot of concentration but we hope it will get more natural as we continue to learn. We'll be going back to the practice party tonight! :-) Still don't have any pictures of us dancing but will aim to get some soon and add it to our blog.
